Principal Message

Welcome to Juhari Devi Girls’ P. G. College, Kanpur.
“Learning is a treasure that will follow you everywhere”. To experience the joy of learning  our college stands as a source of knowledge to its students and entrusts them with responsibility to share what they have received, with the society and the world at large. This is with view to create a better society in all respects.

I wish to express my  gratitude to the founder of the college, Late Sir Padampat Singhania , Patron, Late Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania,  Hon’ble President and Secretary who have guided us with their vision and strong sense of mission for excellence. We must also not fail to acknowledge the efforts of our former Secretaries, Principals, teachers, members of the non-teaching  staff, alumnae and well wishers  for their dedication and  hard work which makes this  institution a leading  centre  of  higher education. It is due to their blessings that the college has acquired  grade ‘B’  in its Accreditation by NAAC in 2006 and now is on the threshold of IInd Cycle of Accreditation.

The college runs the faculty  of Arts  under  which  15 courses at undergraduate level and  6 courses at postgraduate level are  available in Literature, Social Sciences and Fine Arts .  It also offers UGC  approved  add-on courses in Journalism and   Dietetics and an ‘O’ Level Certificate Course in Computers.  A centre of Rajarshi Tondon  Open University, Allahabad is also running in the college campus in which traditional UG, PG courses in various subjects are juxtaposed with several  vocational , job-oriented and add-on  courses through distance learning.

In our  march towards excellence the college  infrastructure  has also been  upgraded from time to time. Our fully-automated  library today boasts of thousands of  rare books, text books, journals and periodicals. Despite the paucity of space, our college administration has undertaken several  infrastructural  development  works. Grievance Redressal Cell and Mahila Helpline have eased the day-to-day problems  faced by the students. Such activities like Health Check-up camps, Alumnae Meets, Parent-Teacher Meet, Environmental Awareness and  Community Development programmes, lectures and camps by Guidance and Counseling Cell and Adult Education programmes etc. are the other highlights of the college. The college today boasts of a technology room with facilities like O.H.P and L.C.D. presentations.  Our college has run   several UGC Schemes under Xth and Xlth plan period like scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, minority and economically challenged students, Network Resource Centre , Equal Opportunity Centre, Career Counseling Cell, Remedial Classes and Coaching for Entry into services for SC,ST, OBC  and minority students. We have also organized book fairs and placement fairs for the students.

Students of our  college enthusiastically participate  in various sports and cultural events  in collegiate, inter-collegiate and inter-university competitions and win several prizes and trophies every year.  Moreover, they have also won  accolades  in various academic and literary events. These achievements have undoubtedly, made us extremely proud of our students.

Our teaching staff has also brought laurels to the college. They have been  conferred with several felicitations and awards, have organized various departmental  activities like guest lectures, competitions, presentations and demonstrations and  are continuously engaged in attending and presenting their research papers in National and International seminars and conferences. Almost everyone of them are involved in publishing their research papers in journals of National and International  repute.  Several of them have authored books on different  issues. Many of them have been invited as resource persons, keynote speakers or experts in seminars, conferences, guest-lectures and workshops.

To sum up, I personally believe that  hard work, dedication and perseverance are the most important traits of a person  that lead to success. The future belongs to the students, their drives and motivations and their needs. I exhort them to prepare themselves for a pro-active  participation in the world. This demands a sincere , well informed and motivated women, which Juhari Devi Girls’ College aims to create.
